Recycling
More than half of what we throw away can be recycled. Recycling should be apart of our daily routines, Re-Pete encourages Highland residents to help conserve landfill space, preserve natural resources, and control rising waste disposal costs.
What You Can Recycle
- Aluminum foil
- Aluminum food and soda cans
- Pie tins
- Steel or tin cans (e.g. tuna cans)
- Binboard (e.g. cereal boxes)
- Cardboard (soda/beverage carriers)
- Cardboard
- Milk cartons
- Glass bottles/jars (any color, remove lids from jar, labels may stay on)
- Mason jars
- Brown paper bags
- Envelopes with plastic window
- Junk mail (remove free samples)
- Magazines/catalogs
- Newspaper (with inserts)
- Telephone/ paperback books
- White and colored paper
- Wrapping paper
- Clean garden pots or flats
- Detergent and fabric softener bottles
- Disposable plates and cups
- Milk, juice, soda and water bottles
- Shampoo and conditioner bottles
- Styrofoam food containers
- Yogurt, dairy and margarine tubs
Items Not to Recycle
- Bathroom waste - Carbon paper
- Clothing or shoes - Rags
- Disposable diapers - Flooring or carpet
- Food waste - Ribbon
- Hoses or lawn furniture - Window glass
- Pizza boxes with food residue - Aerosol or paint cans
- Soiled paper or cardboard - Plastic children’s toys or pools
- Wax paper
Contaminate
Please do not contaminate your recycling cart with trash and/or yard waste. All materials placed in your blue cart should be relatively clean, dry, and empty.
